I finally got some help with pictures on this web site. I managed to get this one through the many steps and really don’t know what I did to get it here. Maybe, just maybe I will be able to get it again. This shows me picking tea in the dead heat of the August summer in the middle of the hot afternoon. The temperature this day was 95-98 degrees with no breeze. What is different is I have on a new neck fan my daughter gave me for my birthday – 77th. The fan is amazingly effective! It is a bit noisy but worth the slight irritation. I will continue to use it.
We are making our usual batches of green and black tea. We have a steady stream of visitors stopping by to buy it. We are almost selling it as fast as we make it so I might not have the 300 pounds on hand I like to have at the end of the picking season. The bushes are being very cooperative, it is just easier to take an afternoon nap on the couch instead of getting all greased up (sunscreen and bug spray) and going out in the intense heat to pull leaves. Its a choice I make for myself, I guess.
Our tours have really slowed down, but that’s OK. The City of Fairhope is rebuilding their welcome center and that’s the only place tourist will find our rack cards telling about our tours. I guess it will be open soon and tours will pick up.
